World Touring and international series TCR intend to unite in 2018.
According to TouringCarTimes, in the last few months, FIA is negotiating with the promoters of both Championships.
Losing two manufacturers – Citroen and Lada – in the end of last season, the WTCC over the past years looking for a replacement of the current technical regulations of the Super 2000 TC1, which is too expensive for private teams. A suitable alternative may well be more affordable, the concept of TCR, founded several years ago by former WTCC promoter Marcello Lotti.
What is interesting and attractive international series TCR?
But for two separate Championships with the same technical basis would be inappropriate, given that the series in this case will fight among themselves for the participants and the attention of the public. On the other hand, the merger will strengthen the category of Touring due to use of gaining popularity of the concept of TCR and experience of the WTCC promoter Eurosport Events in the media.
The agreement is not yet achieved, but it is expected that the promoters of WSC Ltd will sign with the FIA two-year contract for the use of the regulation of TCR following the example of obtaining a license for the ETCC in 2017. According to rumors, the joint League will be called the FIA WTCR and the wear status of the world Cup. This will allow to use the concept of a TCR that does not require direct involvement of producers, whereas the status of the world Cup this would have been impossible.
Writes TouringCarTimes, the agreement will be concluded in the coming weeks. Up to this time no formal review is expected.
