The reigning and five-time world champion WRC Sebastien Ogier leads after the second day of the Rally Mexico, first gravel stage in the season 2018.
Racer M-Sport started the day in fifth place with a lag of half an hour from Dani Sordo, but by the end of the morning section took the third place, and after lunch headed classification. Partly it became possible due to the problems at rivals ahead – su14 Sordo and leading at the time, Sebastien Loeb has broken wheels. And if the Spaniard lost only half a minute, fell back to third place, the nine-time world rally champion, alas, it cost more than two minutes.
“On the path lay the stone. Anything terrible in it was not. I don’t think that will happen puncture, but it backfired,” he told Loeb that the final day will start fifth.
Ogier, leaving the leaders, avoided any trouble and won the day’s four special stages in a row. The advantage of the Frenchman before three Sunday DOP of 35.9 seconds over the current winner of the Rally Mexico, Chris and Mick.
“Good day, commented Ogier his speech. – I attacked hard and very happy with the result.”
Sordo loses Miku 10.9 seconds and it is can still compete for second place, while the second Hyundai driver Andreas Mikkelsen alone is in fourth place behind Norwegian 41.9 seconds from Sordo ahead of 51.3 seconds to Loeb.
Again no luck for the championship leader Thierry Neuville. After the problems the day before the Belgian lost another two minutes on the first stage it first stalled due to the ingress of water into the engine, and then puncture the wheel. However, the driver of the Hyundai is sixth in the General classification.
