In the near future WRC calendar can be expanded up to 16 stages, but it will happen by reducing the length of the rally from three to two days. Such a possibility, the General promoter of the world Cup Oliver Cisla.
Ten years ago in connection with the reduction of costs and reduction of logistical issues for teams in the WRC calendar has been cut from 16 to 13 rallies. The number of stages remains at this level. But the organizers are interested in expanding – among the candidates for inclusion in the calendar are Chile and Japan.
“We do not exclude reducing the duration of the rally in the strategic objectives, stated Cisla in an interview with Motorsport News. – Reduction of duration of one, two or three races will do nothing, but, reducing all the stages, we get 15-16 days off, that is more than two weeks. This is a completely different conversation.”
The organizers of several stages expressed willingness to try out the two-day format in 2018.
