Thierry Neuville brought the first triumph of the Hyundai team this season, having won the famous rally Tour de Corse.
The turning point of the rally was the Saturday evening. Morning DOPA was Belgian and his co-driver Nicolas Gilsoul, so at Novella they were able to defeat championship leader Sebastien Ogier.
This SU due to technical problems went Kris Meeke, passing the leadership into the hands of Neuville. After that, the Belgian acted correctly, showing the best times on the eighth and ninth SU. He finally broke the losing streak early in the season, when he twice missed the victory because of the accidents, and in Mexico took third place.
Despite the huge number of problems – the Ford Fiesta was only on rear wheel drive, hydraulics acted up, and at the last stage the engine began to lose power – Ogier still managed to hold second place. At the penultimate stage he lost second to Dani Sordo, but he was able to regain his place in the final stage and finished the rally with a delay of 54.7 seconds behind the leader.
Became the third partner Neuville, Dani Sordo admitted that the morning of the DOP was the worst in his career. But the Spaniard still did not give a chance to the winner of the Rally Sweden Jari-Matti Latvala, who beat Craig Breen in the battle for fourth position by 0.1 seconds on the final stage. In the end, Finn earned five extra points.
Breen on Saturday did not work the radio throughout the Novella, but he eventually won fifth place. The rally driver has now placed in the championship in sixth position in points despite skipping Rally Mexico and the performance on stage in Monte Carlo last year’s car.
The latest WRC car in the top ten was Hayden Paddon, the kiwi was content with sixth place.
