The Argentine province of Cordoba took the first finishers of the participants of the 40th in the history and the 10th in South America, the rally-marathon “Dakar”.
284-kilometer route of the final day was opened by the riders and the riders started in a mixed order. They were the first who completed the 14-day race, the total length of which amounted to about 9000 kilometers.
Started the final stage of the rally-marathon “Dakar-2018”
In both tests without major changes. Leaders have avoided unnecessary risks and drove very carefully, what was the main objective, given the advantage. This was especially true of Ignacio Casale. After gathering last year’s winner Sergey Karjakin in the fifth stage, the Chilean was left without serious opponents and changed their tactics. Of the following six stages he won only two, but consistently finished in the top three and the final part of the rally-marathon has created a backlog in half an hour. Opponents could only hope for a misfire, but Casale has demonstrated enviable resilience and didn’t give them a reason.
For Chilean rider this victory at the “Dakar” has become a second career after the triumph in 2014 and possibly past driving a Quad. According to rumors, next year he plans to hold a rally RAID buggy.
In the motorcycle category was the strongest Matthias Walkner. Austrian has developed the last year’s success – the second place and won the first victory in fourth start. But most importantly, he continued a phenomenal series of KTM and brought the “orange” record 17th consecutive victory. The key point for Walkner was the victory on the 10th stage, when most of his rivals lost and lost a lot of time. Matthias, who held fifth place before the start, won that stage and not just left to the leaders, but pulled away from everyone for half an hour. Some handicap from the nearest rival Kevin Benavides on the Honda motorcycle he got to the finish in Cordoba.
