Today, 25 January, his 27th birthday celebrates the Russian racer, winner of rally-marathon “Dakar-2017” in the category of ATVs Sergey Karjakin.
The editorial Board wishes to Sergei for a speedy recovery and return to racing, new achievements and victories, and, of course, successful preparations for the Dakar rally next year.
At the beginning of the racing career Sergey Karjakin participated in the rally and in 2011 spent a full season in the world, speaking in class, which is now known as J-WRC, and was then called the WRC Academy.
“From the age of 16 I began to participate [in competitions], then became the champion of Russia. My ex-partner left the co-driver in another team, and I built my factory team together with the plant “Baltmotors”. A year of travel and realized that I wanted more. I rode on a snowmobile with his friend [Alexander Dorosinskiy], and he said to me: “You became the champion of Russia. We need to go further. Try yourself in the car”, – said Sergei in an exclusive interview . In order to understand if I can ride in cars or not, we went in Myachkovo to speak at “legends” – these are cars with a motorcycle engine. It so happened that I the sixth or seventh round went two minutes. And it was the first time I sat at a sports manual transmission. After that decided that you need to participate: six months I drove it with different navigators, then we began to ride with Anton Navigator, with whom we started racing in the classic rally.
We missed the national competition. Won prizes in Europe, I was the fastest Subaru pilot in Sweden at the stage of the world Cup, then we with Anton (Vlasyuk) took polutants team Ford – it’s all in one year happened in 2011.
But ended the year ended the money. This ended my career of a pilot classic rally. It is expensive. World championship classic rally sponsor it was impossible to find, because he’s nobody’s interested in Russia.
Rally is a high speed, besides, I’m probably one of the few pilots who decided to start your racing journey at once with such status competitions. We even RAF did not want to give a license, saying that we should at least pass the European championship, and best of any club rally. But anyway, I got a lot of experience. I believe that it was the right move. It got me to take another look on life, a new attitude, develop the right approach to race. And I went back to the Quad bike in a factory team”.
