Minders Renault are considering the use of four power plants in the season of 2018, despite the reduction in permitted number of units to three and guaranteed penalties on the starting grid in case of exceeding the limit.
Many teams are skeptical about the tightening of regulations in this area, and it seems that the French company will not even try to meet the new limit.
Renault will insist on changes in the limit of engines for the season
According to Auto Motor und Sport, Renault is planning to ask its clients – Red Bull Racing and McLaren – focus on the four power units for the season. One advantage of this approach is the ability to quickly implement updates.
“The balance between reliability and refinement is very difficult to find”, – explained the head of Renault Sport’s Cyril Abitbul.
Red Bull Racing has already supported the plans of Renault and ready to penalties.
“Strategic planning fines teams are losing not so much, – said sports consultant to Red Bull Helmut Marko. Last year in Monza we started from the end of the peloton and finished fourth.”
Mercedes and Ferrari have excluded planned out beyond the three allowed motors in the season.
