Commercial Director of Formula 1 Sean Bratches believes that only 1/4 of the races in the season should be broadcast on free television.
A few years ago Bernie Ecclestone called the transition F1 on pay-broadcast suicide for teams and explained the possible difficulties in finding sponsors. But his followers from Liberty Media believe otherwise.
“Free TV allows you to extend the coverage of the audience, and brings the money – said Batches in an interview with Auto Motor und Sport. – Ideally on free TV should be 25-30% of races, while the rest needs to be paid air. In France and some other countries, this model works well. But there are countries where the transition to the paid broadcast soon. In principle, a good thing that some races are broadcast free of charge – this is a great Formula 1”.
