Former technical Director Williams Pat Symonds joined the team of experts assisting Ross brown in the reform of Formula 1, believes that other sports are much more successful using social networks to promote their product, rather than Big Prizes.
In 2017 Formula 1 showed the growth of television and digital audiences
“On paper, the increase in the popularity of F1 in social networks is a good sign, but in reality we are nowhere,’ said Symonds, commenting on the increase in the popularity of F1 in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube 54.9 per cent compared with the year 2016. – We give the example of Facebook, where Mercedes 10 million likes, and FC Barcelona likes almost ten times more.
The same applies to the popularity of the main actors: Lewis Hamilton is following in Facebook’s four million people, and [real Madrid striker] Cristiano Ronaldo almost 12 million.
We need to catch up in this direction. At least now we’re aware of that, because when F1 was led by Bernie Ecclestone, this question is unlikely to ever come up for discussion.”
