The Chairman of the Board of Daimler AG Dieter Zetsche believes that the current dominance of Mercedes has a negative impact on the popularity of F1.
In 2017 the German team celebrated its fourth consecutive championship in the Cup of designers. Zetsche wants Mercedes continued to win, but it is major competitors need to approach it as close as possible.
“I have said many times that the best scenario for us would be winning the championship title in the last race with a margin of just one point – said Zetsche’s comments Autocar. I want to say that we want to be successful in successful the championship. And when the sport is dominated by one team, it does not strengthen the platform F1.
Mercedes is not going to leave F1, but the platform of the championship must be not only meaningful, but also to develop. Therefore, we need stronger competitors and a change in the regulations.”
