In modern Formula 1 it is difficult to assume that the team are a beginner, just entered into the championship from the start would win the race. The latest newcomer to F1 – Haas team – got sixth place in his first race, and this was seen as a huge success.
But exactly 40 years ago, on 9 January 1977, in the debut race of the season a canadian team rookie Walter Wolf Racing wiped his nose Ferrari, Lotus, McLaren and Brabham. Then jodie won at the Grand Prix of Argentina, ahead of the nearest pursuer, which was the Brazilian Carlos Pace at Brabham, 43 seconds. The podium was completed by representative of Ferrari’s Carlos Reutemann.
In that year, Schecter has won in Monaco and Canada. Just for the season, he won nine podiums, but overall lost to Niki Lauda, who celebrated his second title with Ferrari.
Team Walter Wolf Racing finished the campaign in fourth place in the constructors ‘ championship. Note that throughout the season, Walter Wolf Racing fielded only one car, driven by Schecter.
