The former head of the Benetton Renault Flavio Briatore believes that the team from Enstone in the mid-90s did not need the leadership of Formula 1. According to the Italian, this was associated with a number of disqualifications of Michael Schumacher in Silverstone and Spa in the season 1994.
“We have twice won the championship, despite the fact that the FIA is trying to stop us – quoted Briatore edition of Speed Week. – Our team had no such authority as an old-timer Ferrari, McLaren, Brabham, Tyrrell. So everything was done to prevent us to win, especially in 1994, when we first became involved in the fight for the title. Several times Michael Schumacher unfairly disqualified, but our team still won and repeated this success the following year.”
