Monday after the Grand Prix of Belgium a press-service of the Toro Rosso announced that Sean Gelael will spend a few Friday’s training behind the wheel of a F1 car before the end of this season.
The report says that the young racer will go to Singapore, Malaysia, USA and Mexico.
20-year-old Indonesian pilot spends a season in Formula 2. This year Sean ran a F1 car on the tests in Bahrain and Hungary.
“During the tests in Bahrain and Budapest Shawn was a great show, professionally helped the team and has shown a Mature approach to solving complex problems, – said the head of Toro Rosso Franz Toast. Engineers got important feedback, and all were amazed by his speed and technical expertise. We are delighted that he will hold the first Friday trainings on these four Grand Prix. I’m sure he will cope with the task.”
Gelael added: “What an amazing opportunity! First, I am grateful to everyone who believed in me and helped to implement it. I am honored to show themselves in Formula 1, beginning with Singapore and Malaysia – these two tracks are far from my country, Indonesia. I’ll be like a sponge to soak up all the knowledge and, hopefully, a good job, to give Toro Rosso the desired data from the first sessions.”
It is unknown whose place is in the cockpit is Shawn on these first trainings.
