As reported by the FIA in Formula 1 can appear unmanned technology, however, only for car safety.
Marcin Budkowski, head of technical Department of FIA, proposed this idea to promote new Autonomous technology.
“We discussed unmanned vehicle security, told Bukowski in an interview with AUTOSPORT. – It would have helped development of technology, to which many are skeptical. So we would have to show how they work. Now we don’t have to use the services of a driver, everyone can do computer.
However, you need to understand that in Formula 1, such technology can have a negative impact on the popularity of: engineers, they like it, but the fans hardly.”
Budkowski also commented on the role of the first racing series of unmanned vehicles Roborace in promoting new developments: “I think it’s interesting Roborace series, however, will in F1 to look at the competition of unmanned vehicles? I doubt it.
However with the help of the safety car in F1 we will still be able to promote new technologies.”
Probably, this news surprised Bernd Maylander, managing the safety car in F1 since 2000.
