The Ferrari pilot Sebastian Vettel paid tribute to the winner of the Grand Prix of Russia to Valtteri Bottas.
Sebastian started first on the grid, but in the second turn came in only second after Finn. The German admitted that his race was lost at the start.
“I don’t think Valtteri was equally good start, – said Vettel. – Maybe he managed to get ahead through the slipstream. I tried to protect the inner radius, but on the way to the braking point he was already in front of me.
In this time he won the race. Valtteri had a great first part of the race: I couldn’t keep up with him. He drove fast throughout the race and made no mistakes. Sitting in front of you are the best pilot on the day.
I, in turn, did everything possible to overtake Valtteri. I thought I might have a chance on the back straight.
Honestly, I thought that Felipe [Massa] will skip me ahead in the third turn because the turn is passed at full throttle. He could easily lift the foot off the gas. I did not understand what he was going to do in that episode. Because of this I lost a little more time.
In any case, I congratulate Valtteri with his first career victory. It’s his day.”
