Former Mercedes Motorsport boss Norbert Haug believes that double world champion Fernando Alonso took not the most reasonable decision to make his debut in the race “500 miles of Indianapolis”.
“To debut in the IndyCar on a high speed oval with no experience – not the best idea – quoted Haug Motorsport-Total. – It’s great that last year the Indy 500 was won by the debutant Alexander Rossi. Maybe Alonso can do it too. But whether he will return to Formula 1 is more motivated to fight at the end of the peloton?
For IndyCar debut Alonso is success. But the 35-year-old driver with no experience on the oval, where the speed reaches up to 385 km/h – not the best and not the safest combination.
I don’t think he will leave F1 at the end of this year. Alonso is a born racer but he was often in the wrong team at the wrong time. Now he plays in a McLaren-Honda, while his former team Ferrari wins.”
