Director Haas Gunther Steiner believes that the middle tier teams will not be able to close the gap on the top three in the person of Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull Racing.
In Australia and China the fastest pilot, not represented on any of the three best teams, lost to the winner of the pole position 1.8 seconds.
In Bahrain the best among the rest was Nico Hulkenberg of Renault, who lost the best qualification time one second.
“Yes, between the teams of the middle tier began a tight battle, but the gap from the top three is pretty impressive,’ said Gunther in an interview with the official F1 website. – Mercedes and Ferrari are far ahead of everyone else, and Red Bull Racing are a bit behind the leaders.
Will the balance of power? I hope so. On the other hand, I fear that the situation will remain unchanged until the end of the season.”
Steiner hopes that the American team, which holds only the second season in F1, will be able in the course of the campaign-2017 to upgrade the machine, not behind in this indicator from the main competitors.
“I don’t know what do now other teams, but we have a good plan – continued Gunter. – I think that the number of updates we are about on the same level with the teams-middle peasants. We can only provide quality updates.
We’ll bring a big package of updates to Barcelona, and the next batch of new products is already undergoing tests in the wind tunnel.
As soon as we get encouraging results, we will start production of new parts. We also bring small novelties in every race.”
