Fernando Alonso has expressed regret over the penalty for the partner of McLaren Stoffele of Vandorn after another, problems with the Honda engine on the Friday practice of Grand Prix of Russia.
The Belgian became the first driver in 2017, which received a fine for exceeding the number of allowed elements of the power plant for the season. His car mounted the fifth generator MGU-H and a fifth turbine, which led to the penalty of loss of 15 seats at the start of the race.
“Just unbelievable when you get the fine already in the fourth race, – quotes Alonso AUTOSPORT. – I feel sorry for him because he’s an amazing racer and a true mega-talent. Start a career in F1 turned out difficult for him. Hopefully, he’ll be lucky and we’ll both be able to be close to the points.
We had a lot of retirements, and problems in training not allow you to feel confident. But the car is exactly the same as in Bahrain, so if we had problems in the first three races, they are possible here in Barcelona, Monaco and the next race.”
To the question about updates Honda engine, Alonso replied: “Where? I don’t know anything about it. You need to know. But I don’t think we have something to stage in Canada.
McLaren is preparing the update of the machine, and I hope that in Barcelona our chassis will be more competitive, as in Monaco.
Let’s hope that the Grand Prix of Canada Honda, too, will do something, we will be able to join in the fight for a more serious position.”
