The promoter of the stage of F1 in Baku Arif Rahimov said that the new F1 Chairman chase Carey called him to apologize for comments Liberty Media in which the phase in Azerbaijan was openly criticized.
Earlier this year, Executive Director of Liberty Media Greg Maffei said that Ecclestone has agreed to host the stage in Baku just because of monetary benefits.
What Rahimov said that called Maffia ignorant of such matters. In the end, Carey agreed with Arif.
“I talked to chase, explained Rahimov. – Initially, we discussed more, but this subject can not be omitted. We came to the conclusion that not all share this point of view.
Carey apologized for the incident. According to him, he is absolutely not agree with the assertions [Maffia]. He was upset that the situation was brought to such a scale, and I was pleased to hear that he is still on our side.
I think we’ve now decided all the issues. It remains only to show everyone how serious the work we have done to make a great race.”
Rahimov also added that Carey advocated the retention of the stage in Baku on the F1 calendar. Yet, the organizers signed a ten-year contract with the option to take a break after five years of Grand Prix.
“He loves our race – continued Rahimov. – He would like to go on the stage, and, moreover, it is a lot of nice things to say about the event itself.
We are strategic partners of F1, therefore, the preservation of the race, of course, included in his plans.
Talks on the phone went well, and I was glad to learn that not everyone agrees with Greg Maffei”.
Rahimov also commented on the option to break the contract: “we know what We want and how we need to improve the conditions of the contract, however, until we only think about the upcoming race.”
