The former head of management F1 Bernie Ecclestone is not confident that the Grand Prix of Brazil will remain in the calendar after 2020.
New F1 CEO chase Carey instructed Bernie to negotiate with the organizers of the race at Interlagos on the renewal of the contract with the stage.
Earlier it was rumored that the Ecclestone is considering the purchase of Interlagos.
Bernie Ecclestone is showing interest in the acquisition of Interlagos
“Before my trip to Brazil chase asked me to talk to the President about the race because I was leading these negotiations – said Ecclestone in an interview with Brazilian publication UOL Esprte. But it seemed to me that the mayor of são Paulo was more concerned about not F1, and other things. He doesn’t want to spend a single dollar on the Grand Prix.
He wants to sell the racetrack and asked if I would be interested in buying. We made a deal that whoever buys the circuit shall be in F1. Then you will need to find the organizer of the race. It’s quite a challenge.
But if we do not take any steps, just lose the Grand Prix of Brazil”.
At the same time, Bernie was assured that the Brazilian GP will be in F1 until 2020 – until the end of the current contract.
