At the moment in Formula 1 there is a system of penalty points that are added to the superlicense.
Before a decision is made regarding the punishment, each case is subject to consideration by the stewards. The driver may get a fine in the form of loss of positions on the starting grid, and increase of time to its final result, a judge is free to make the pilot a formal warning and charge a penalty.
Three warnings in a season will automatically lead to the loss of ten places at the next Grand Prix if at least two of them were entirely the fault of the rider.
In addition, if the driver has accumulated 12 penalty points over a period of 12 months, he will be obliged to miss the race, after which the count of penalty points will go again.
In 2016, two official warnings received Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz, while Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg, Marcus Ericsson, Felipe Massa, Kevin Magnussen, Max Verstappen, Valtteri Bottas, Rio Haryanto and Pascal Wehrlein were punished at once.
Warning usually do for minor offenses. For example, Hamilton for what drove a few inches in reverse in Bahrain in the pit lane and decided not to call in boxes in Russia, back on the road, received a reprimand.
At the end of the season the score is reset to zero reprimands.
For more serious incidents, such as, for example, provoke a collision, the stewards may add some penalty points to the superlicense.
At the moment most of all penalty points from Daniil Kvyat – eight. Esteban Gutierrez seven, Vettel with Rosberg six, five Sainz and Felipe Nasr, Magnussen, Jolyon Palmer, Esteban Windows Bottas and Wehrlein four.
