Max Verstappen is proud of how he managed to cope with the change of environment in the course of 2016.
Max started the competitive year in the Toro Rosso, for which, however, had only four races. On the eve of the Grand Prix of Spain, it was announced that the Dutchman was promoted to Red Bull Racing and Daniil Kvyat returned in STR.
Verstappen immediately justified the decision of the Austrian team, winning the race in Barcelona.
When the reporter GPUpdate.net I asked max about his biggest challenge in 2016, the pilot replied: “This is by far, my transition from Toro Rosso to Red Bull.
I needed to show my strength, but you never know how things will turn. You don’t know how the car will behave, and how successfully you adapt to the new environment. Well, it all worked out. At the same time, I tried as best as possible to prepare yourself for it.”
Verstappen also said that he does not feel comfortable in the cockpit RB12 until the Grand Prix of Malaysia, where he finished second behind teammate Daniel ricciardo.
“At first it was hard to explain to the mechanics what exactly I wanted to change in the car, as was almost not familiar with it, continued Max. In the beginning of the season in the Toro Rosso, I knew exactly how it all works. If the settings of the brakes, the steering wheel or gas was varied, I felt it.
In Malaysia I really got at its disposal the machine, which suited me. Of course, pit stops and the departure of the safety car has played against me, but that’s racing.”
