Honda pilot Tiago Monteiro commented on the conquest of the pole position at the end of qualifying in Marrakech.
Tiago Monteiro won the qualification in Marrakech
“I always feel confident on urban roads, said the former F1 racer in an interview with TouringCarTimes. – The pole position – the best way to start a new championship. This is a demonstration of the progress we have made.
In addition, on the highway it is important to be ahead. I almost won first place in qualifying in 2016, but because of a small mistake I had to settle for third position”.
In the battle for Superpole Monteiro defeated Nestor Girolami, Norbert Michelis, Rob Huff and Mehdi Bennani.
“I knew I was driving faster Girolami in Q2 – continued Monteiro. – At the same time it seemed to me that the track was slower due to the fact that the temperature was falling.
I decided not to risk it in the first two turns, and then felt the grip with the asphalt and started to play better.
Do not forget that last year I also started great: after two racing weekends, I was leading the championship. I hope that this year my lead will last longer.
Of course, the qualifying points are important, because they can play a decisive role in the allocation of seats, but the big points are played in races”.
