Rookie Hyundai Andreas Mikkelsen completed the first day of the Rally Spain at the top of the General classification.
The Norwegian took leadership on the morning of the section. After SS5 it skipped ahead of Mads Ostberg on the private car by Ford, which fell behind by 0.3 seconds, but the next stage is again at the head of the rally. By the end of the day the advantage Mikkelsen was 1.4 seconds.
“Good day, commented Mikkelsen. – I feel confident behind the wheel. I really like this car!”
The closest rival racer Hyundai has become the championship leader Sebastien Ogier. Despite the fact that he had to open the track, the Frenchman throughout the day was in the top three and won the final special stage on Friday.
The third position on the first day settled Citroen driver Kris Meeke, who lost three seconds to Mikkelsen.
Partner Ogier and M-Sport’s Ott Tanak was sitting in fourth place and ahead of only 0.8 seconds Ostberg, who СУ6 lost a lot of time for an unusual reason – because running the stove in the cabin, Ford turned out to be a lot of dust, hampering visibility.
Sixth place went to Dani Sordo, while the third Hyundai driver and main rival Ogier in the championship, Thierry Neuville was unable to climb out of seventh position.
Rounded out the Top 10 Juho Hanninen, stéphane Lefebvre and Esapekka Lappi.
