Directorate Rally Portugal returned Thierry Neuville 11.6 seconds because he kept Jari-Matti Latvala at the final stage of Friday.
The Belgian completed spewtastic Ponte de Lima 19.1 seconds slower rally leader Dani Sordo.
“I was stuck behind him for more than five kilometers and, trying to overtake three times almost went off the road. He was driving slowly my Granny, don’t understand why they would continue,” said Neuville, who won this season on the Tour de Corse and Rally Argentina.
Latvala, who suffered a power loss due to the tapered exhaust after the accident, admitted that he tried to do everything possible not to hold back Hyundai.
“I moved out of the way as soon as I got a message from command stating that he was there,” said Latvala.
After watching the video from the onboard camera on the car Neuville, the stewards released a statement:
“After receiving a request from the participant at number 5 to the time change on the seventh SU due to the fact that participant number 10 kept him in check, we have studied the time period set by the participant under number 5 of the fourth and seventh SU and decided to fix the result to 19.27,7”.
This decision Neuville moved two places up and now it takes the fourth position, displacing Craig Breen and Alfina Evans.
