Raimund Baumschlager will become this week the first driver who will sit behind the wheel within the private program of the Volkswagen Polo R WRC.
VW has always refused to transfer their cars to private teams during their dominance in the WRC from 2013 to 2016.
This week, multiple Austrian champion and team leader Baumschlager will use last year’s car of Sebastien Ogier on the rally of the Austrian stage.
Volkswagen Motorsport has offered Baumschlager technical support and serve the car will be chief engineer in last year’s team Ogier Gerard Jan de Jong.
The Polo R WRC will remain the logos of Red Bull thanks to the cooperation of Austrian companies with Baumschlager.
“I am very proud that I had the honour to manage the Polo R WRC, is quoted in AUTOSPORT Baumschlager. –I can’t even describe in words how much I’m excited”.
Director of Volkswagen Motorsport Sven Smith confirmed that the talks went and with other private racers, however, this is unlikely to lead to the formation of long-term programs.
