Rally driver Mikko Hirvonen said that Toyota is still not quite ready to begin his campaign in the WRC next week in Monte Carlo.
Toyota Yaris WRC is running Jari-Matti Latvala and Juho Hanninen for the first time will pass in the stage of the world rally Championship.
Last year Hirvonen has tested this car. This allowed Callisto to the conclusion that the car is hardly at the beginning of the season will be able to count on the catwalks.
“I think they [Toyota] are still not quite ready, — quoted Hirvonen AUTOSPORT.com. — They had a very busy schedule of the car’s development, and, as far as I am aware, a lot of work.
However, Jari-Matti is quite experienced driver, so they can really improve, if he can lead the team. However, this is unlikely to happen in the first half of the season.”
Hirvonen is hoping that his compatriot and former racer Volkswagen, who left the championship, Jari-Matti Latvala will be able to recover from a failed 2016.
“It was quite difficult, continued Hirvonen. — He made mistakes, and the car happened to a technical malfunction, especially in the last year. It certainly was surprising, given that he played for Volkswagen.
I hope that he will be able to cope with the situation and make efforts to the development of the car, then start to win the rally”.
After the departure of Volkswagen from WRC at the end of 2016 four-time world champion Sebastien Ogier signed a contract with M-Sport.
Hirvonen won 14 out of 15 wins for the British team.
“The title is possible, continued Hirvonen. — Long time was not such that all of the team was designing the new car and the manufacturer Ford has always been famous for the fact that can create a competitive car.
I don’t know anything for sure, but anything is possible. I hope that the team will again begin to win, because the team and Malcolm [Wilson, the boss of M-Sort] did so much for my career.”
Hirvonen also added that it will be interesting to see the performance Ogier behind the wheel of another car: “I Wonder how it will show itself Ogier on a new car, which he developed from the very beginning, as was the case with Volkswagen.”
