The Citroen driver Kris Meeke has admitted that he would like to play in a team with Sebastien Ogier next season.
A year ago, Citroen has signed Mika, and then Craig Breen and stéphane Lefebvre, the most staffed.
Recently, however, Volkswagen has said it is leaving the world rally Championship, leaving four-time champion Sebastien Ogier of work.
“If Sebastien returned to Citroen, I would not be against – said driver in an interview to our website. – So far I have not discussed this issue with the team, but personally I can say that I am interested to speak with him [Ogier] one team in a car that should be much stronger than this season.
The atmosphere in this case would become more competitive, so to speak.
When I first became aware of the care Volkswagen, I immediately wrote to Sebastien, I’m sorry it happened, but I want to see him at the start in Monte Carlo.
I haven’t talked to Yves [Matton, Director of Citroen] but I don’t mind if the team comes any of the three Volkswagen drivers.
Some contenders for a place in the team I didn’t like – I was afraid that they can hurt the team – but it’s not exactly Ogier, [Jari-Matti] Latvala or [Andreas] Mikkelsen. These guys are willing to roll up our sleeves and to work full time – that’s what I intend to do.”
Mick also added that he was sorry to miss the opportunity to compete with Volkswagen in 2017.
“We have been preparing to join the fight for the championship with VW, and now this missed opportunity – continued Chris. – It would be interesting to look at our struggle in 2017. However, no one will be able to try their hand against their car and it’s one of the main losses for the championship.”
Ogier left Citroen at the end of 2011 after the deterioration of relations with partner Sebastien Loeb, however, some sources claim that the team is looking for ways to build relationships.
“I understand why they are trying to sign him, the source said. Together with Chris and Paul [Nepom, co-driver Mika] team would have been excellent, and between them have flared up a serious struggle.
It was a difficult decision for SEB, however, we remember that he’s already been at Citroen when the car was built by another racer”.
