The next generation of sport prototypes LMP1 in the WEC could be similar to road cars.
The idea is to make machines the main class of the WEC according to the principle of technology GTP of the late 90s and early 2000s was considered at a recent meeting of the FIA and the ACO promoters, the agenda of which were technical regulations after 2019.
“The proposal is to make a body kit similar to the body of the road car. It would be interesting for manufacturers, who are now the LMP1 class is uninteresting”, – quotes AUTOSPORT technical Director of Toyota Motorsport Pascal Vasselon.
But as said sports Director of the automobile club Vincent Belmesnil, it is too early to discuss such a plan.
“We are in the middle of the deliberation process, so still need some time to clarify,” said Belmesnil.
As writes AUTOSPORT, one of the stumbling blocks are fears that the new prototypes, the basis of which can be a hypercar such as the Aston Martin Valkyrie or the LaFerrari, will not allow you to reduce costs – the main goal of the new regulations.
