The crew of the Russian team Arctic Energy World Rally Team continues its performance at the first stage of the world rally championship.
January 25 became the day of the official launch at the Central square in front of casino Monte Carlo. Before the solemn opening ceremony was organized Pre-party Arctic Energy WRT. Invited sponsors, partners, friends and guests congratulated the owner of the team Sergey Egorov with the beginning of a new sports program. Among the guests were the head of team M-Sport Ford WRT Malcolm Wilson, the English billionaire John Caudwell, President of the yacht club of Monaco, Bernard Alessandri, Olialia Co-Founders Rasa Tomkiene and Justas Tomkus, Vice-champion of European rally Alexey lukyanuk, Mrs. Univerese Monaco Natalia Shapovalova and Top Model of the Wold 2017 Julia Gershun.
“It’s important for us to start a rally project in Monte-Carlo, – said Sergey Egorov, the owner of the team Arctic Energy WRT. – For more than 100 years of Monaco associated with the most challenging and beautiful races. Royal luxury and real danger – a combination that can leave no one indifferent”.
Malcolm Wilson, head of M-Sport Ford WRT, took the word: “Rally Monte Carlo – the most difficult rally in the whole championship. You need to show all the wisdom to cope with constantly changing road conditions. And it is very important to finish”.
“We went to the reading, watched all the roads. The race is insanely difficult. Guys good luck, courage and a wise choice of tyres!” – said the Vice-champion of European rally Alexey lukyanuk.
After the ceremonial start of the 67 crews drove through the starting podium and went to the special stages. The schedule of the first day of the rally there were only two special stages – more than 62 km with an ever-changing coating that is impossible to predict. After completing each of the following crew coverage became more unpredictable and dangerous. Real roulette!
The first special stage Thoard – Sisteron started with the dry asphalt, and then in the turns and on the road there was snow, it was very slippery. On the second special stage of the pilots even talked about the gravel! And all of this night high in the mountains.
“Especially for Rally Monte Carlo produces a unique type of tyres. It slicks with spikes. The composition of the tyres is of paramount importance, so it is very important to make the right choice,” the pilot told the Arctic Energy World Rally Team Deividas Jocius,
In the beginning of the first stage R2 for Peugeot brakes failed. As it turned out, leaked brake fluid. The only remaining way of stopping was the Parking brake. But the Lithuanians were able to cope with an unexpected problem and to finish on a 36-km long special stage.
“We decided not to start on the second special stage, and go directly to the service Park. Very dangerous to travel 25 km, as brakes, using only the handbrake. And very slow. Mechanics will find out the reason, and tomorrow we will continue the rally”, – said Deividas Jocius.
For missing the final stage of the first day the crew will receive a time penalty: 10 minutes, added to the best result in the class.
January 26, the crew of the Arctic Energy WRT will continue to contest the system “Rally 2”. Despite the late end of the first day, but at midnight the first crew arrived at the service Park, and at 8 a.m. the leaders of the rally start the second day. Crews will overcome 301,72 km, of which 144,88 stages. As they say in the casino: the cards have been dealt, gentlemen. Place your bets!
