The crossing of the territory of Algeria in the course of the rally-RAID “Paris-Dakar” in 1988 turned out to be a serious test for the participants.
For several days, the riders were faced with big problems, overcoming the sand dunes at dusk.
The caravan was able to cross the Sahara, but then got stuck on the route from Djanet to dzhado, which was later renamed as “hell stage.” Even trucks refueling was not able to reach the destination. Thus, the leaders of the rally Gilbert Sabine and Rene Metro had to cancel the stage.
