The history of the rally-RAID “Dakar”, which in 2018 will celebrate its 40th anniversary, remember a lot of fierce battles. One such battle took place in 2001 between Jean-Louis Schlesser, who spoke on the buggy of your own team, and Mitsubishi factory driver Hiroshi Masuoka.
On the penultimate stage, the Japanese tried desperately to beat his rival and did it, making overtaking on the sidelines. But the maneuver cost him dearly – was damaged suspension. Angry Navigator Masaki even ran onto the track to demonstrate competitors their disapproval, but that did not help, as the victory was lost. However, Schlesser failed to win, received a penalty.
The victory eventually went to the German racer Jutta Kleinschmidt, who, as Masuoka, played at the Mitsubishi car.
Hiroshi drew conclusions from what happened in the next two years won the “Dakar”.
