Gerard de Rooy is one of the main rivals of “KAMAZ-Master” team in rally-RAID “silk Road”, admitted that such a diversity of types of trails, fields, and then the steppe, and then the dunes with deserts, not anywhere, even on the Dakar.
Yesterday in Moscow the judges checked whether the rally to start July 7 in the capital.
“I think it would be a good race, – shared her impressions de Rooy in an interview with Autopartsway. All the best crews from the category of trucks here. The first week will be long, but I know this truck from the previous “silk Road” and look forward to the start.
On the question of whether he was nervous before the start because of the new cars, the racer said, “No. Truck new, and we still have a lot to test. In the first week you should try to find a good balance, because reliability is paramount. On the second week we will try to raise the speed. Will see what happens, it’s a new truck. Even though he was faster than the old, it is necessary to ensure reliability”.
Compare de Roy is also the “silk Road” with the famous Dakar rally: “These tracks are different, because in Russia we go through the fields and forests. Then the steppe in Kazakhstan – this is a completely different type of track. And then start China with deserts and dunes. A huge variety of types of trails during a single race is unique. I remember in 2008 we went on the same way, and it was the best race. I think this time will be more fun and more difficult than the Dakar.
We have built a completely new truck with independent suspension. But I know that we can all check without any obligations. For many this race is a test for the Dakar, so in “KAMAZ” testing a new engine, transmission; MAZ also validates a new technique, we also test different things. I think everyone will have varying difficulty, and everyone can use this time for tests.”
De Rooy admitted that it does not scare the sand dunes in China: “I love sand, I never it a lot. So I’m looking forward to the second week.”
