The participants of the rally-RAID “Africa Eco race-2017” held the first special stage of the Mauritanian leg of the race.
In order to get to the start from the bivouac in Dakhla, athletes had to leave at about 5 am, then they had to cross the border of Morocco and Mauritania, says the press service of “KAMAZ-Master”.
“We drove about 350 km, crossed the border, no problems in the process arose. Then I passed about 60 km place of start, then we got about 4 hours of free time. We didn’t lose it in vain tried to relax, to sleep, because the climb was very early,” – said the driver of the “KAMAZ-Master” Andrey karginov.
According to Sergei Kupriyanov, the organizers anticipated a possible delay in the passage of the borders and specially made competitive the segment is short, only 172 km.
“Last year we already passed this stage, and it is clear that it will be very fast. Probably the fastest for the whole race. This is done specifically with the border and possible delays. This special stage must leave the day of the competition, but it should not create any problems,” – said Kupriyanov.
Nevertheless, absolutely no problems, alas, has not done.
“We saw a biker, who was standing, something happened, may have fallen. Saw one of the leaders in the SUV category, Thierry Magnaldi, who tinkered with the machine, – said Kupriyanov. – In General, it is strange that we have surpassed only one SUV. We have trucks, the organizers have speed limits, and SUVs these restrictions.
And today was just “straights”, which could go as fast as I could with the car: no turns, no other chances, and besides, the road book was all spelled out quite clearly. As for us, in General, no errors, all passed quickly, confidently, reliably and, hopefully, pleased with the photographers who shot the footage with large “otbrosami”.
In the category of SUVs Vladimir Vasilyev and Konstantin Zhiltsov has strengthened its lead, despite having only the fifth time in the stage. This in particular has contributed to technical problems on the machine of their chief pursuer Thierry Magnaldi who lost a few hours and got to the bivouac in tow.
In offset of motorcycles, alas, no luck Dmitry Agoshkov. At the 19th kilometer on the bike the Russians, who won the previous stage and coming fifth in the overall standings, the engine failed. To move racer from Togliatti could not and was forced to complete the part in “Africa Eco race-2017”. The victory was won by the Italian Paolo Cecci, which reduced the backlog from the leader of the Sella GeV to 28 minutes.
January 9, participants will face the special stage with a length of more than 400 km and again back to Tellit. Thus, the route will be a direct cut, as usual, and the loop that “Africa Eco race-2017” is a tradition.
