Another 409 kilometers of the rally-RAID “Africa Eco race” behind. Road Morocco continues to present athletes unpleasant surprises in the form of punctured tyres and, consequently, loss of time, the press service of “KAMAZ-Master”.
The crew of Andrey Karginov on the way to the finish line struck two of the tires.
“Now goes to the crew, goes to the machines, said the overall leader. – The day went well for us not very good. First we went in the wrong direction. Decided to check, saw that we were going the wrong way, came back, lost about 10 minutes. Then mechanic said affected one wheel. First, “paging” fine, then started to pull the second wheel. And again, “spooling” up to a point mastered, then one of the wheels exploded, we have changed it, kept going and then blew the second. Without “refills”, continued to move to the finish very carefully.
Morocco gives trouble, but that’s okay, all things being equal. But the sweeter the victory. If you came here first, then went neat or correct. As they say, the strongest wins”.
But the crew of Sergey Kupriyanov, unlike the previous days, held a special stage without problems and won.
“Today the stage was challenging because it consisted of three parts: the passes, fast sandy tracks, and in the end started again rocky roads, so many stopped to change the wheel, – said Sergey. This stage, we remembered last year. Then we lost an hour here. But this time never stopped, the wheels did not change, although, as it turned out at the finish, they have suffered. But we arrived without loss of time, very happy.”
In the off-road class for the first time without a victory on the “Africa Eco race” remained Vladimir Vasilyev and Konstantin Zhiltsov. The crew from Saint-Petersburg who won the first three points, this time became the second, having conceded to Frenchman Thierry Magnaldi. However, in the overall standings, they continue to lead in 27 minutes.
In the motorcycle class, the third of the four possible victories won by 18-year-old Gavin’s Village. The South African advantage over the nearest pursuer Paolo Cecchi in the overall standings has reached 1 hour and 4 minutes.
Russian Dmitri Agoshkov, as before, rounded out the top five.
On Friday, January 6, athletes will achieve the final stage before the rest day in the resort town of Dakhla. In “combat” mode, participants have to drive 450 km and 150 km on public roads.
