Sebastien Loeb admitted that special work to test navigational skills, which he and his co-driver Daniel Elena has done after her debut in the Dakar rally 2016, helping them confidently through difficult sections of the famous RAID this year.
On Friday, Loeb took his second stage victory Tupiza, Oruro, ahead of Nani Roma and stéphane Peterhansel, despite a small navigation error.
While many of the contenders for the leadership because of the mistakes lost a lot of time, Loeb has managed almost flawlessly to go through several stages, although on Thursday a nine-time world rally champion has faced problems with the engine.
“Last year we would not have done so — said Loeb in an interview Motorsport.com. — Daniel began to better understand the navigation points, and now we work much better together.
Now we know that we can win stages on which a lot depends on navigation as after the most difficult special stages — continue to fight for the leadership, despite the 25-minute hitch because of a problem with the engine.
Despite all the confidence, we remain aware that in some areas of any driver and Navigator can lose guidelines. Anything could happen”.
In the overall classification Loeb takes second place, losing over a minute partner Peterhansel.
The current winner of the rally-RAID “Dakar” sure, what is the advantage says nothing, as the first four racers shared by only five minutes.
“The separation among the leaders are reduced, — said the driver. – So far we have completed only the fifth day of the rally-RAID, and during this time has had to change four leaders, always just forging ahead.
At this stage a provisional lead in the Dakar means nothing”.
