Hyundai Motorsport has chosen a model for the development of a series of TCR.
The new car will be based on the new generation i30, which was presented last year.
In accordance with the applicable rules of the TCR, the machine will be equipped with two-liter turbocharged engine and six-speed transmission, and fuel tank capacity is 100 liters.
Work on the project began in September of last year.
“The beginning of the first project in circuit racing is a very important step for Hyundai Motorsport – said the boss of Motorsport, Michel Nandan. – Regulation of TCR was incredibly successful and now covers more series around the world.
Along with our program in the WRC and R5 projects, the performance of the TCR will help promote Hyundai in Motorsport.
The coming months will be very stressful for our client departments, as simultaneously with the development of the TCR project we will provide further support to our current customers.
Nonetheless, I am sure that we will have a competitive car. Looking forward to its first departure on the starting grid”.
The General TCR promoter Marcello Lotti added: “We are very pleased to welcome Hyundai to the ever-growing family of TCR. The arrival of the Korean manufacturer adds even more prestige to the long list of well-known brands that have decided to adopt the concept of TCR and act series all over the world.
We look forward to the time when they will join the international series, which is soon to become competitive.”
Tests TCR cars i30 will start in early spring, while the first customer deliveries scheduled for December.
