Non-Executive Director of Mercedes Niki Lauda was pleased with their second place Valtteri Bottas and fourth place Lewis Hamilton following the results of Grand Prix of Brazil.
“I think we got a good result, – said in comments to Sky Sports Lauda. – Vettel was the fastest this day. There’s no doubt about it.
Lewis did a great job. Unfortunately, at the end of the race he failed to reach the third place, but made this all possible. Frankly, we can hardly complain about the result.
It is difficult to evaluate the performance of Valtteri because I think Vettel was driving quite slowly. He didn’t have to up the pace. He did everything right. Valtteri deserved second place”.
Head of Mercedes Motorsport Toto Wolff added: “Valtteri has lost the race at the start. The initial reaction was pretty quick. Moreover, he reacted to the lights even better than Ferrari, but then he spun the wheel.
During the race to overtake an opponent on an equal technique very difficult. So we decided to invite him in for a pit stop before Vettel, but it was a desperate step, because we knew that he lacked half a second per lap.
As for Lewis, he had a great race. He started from the pit lane, and finished just five seconds behind the winner. I think by pure pace Lewis was the fastest today and probably deserved to win. But ahead of Sebastian completely controlled the race. I believe that it was not my best”.
