The pilot of McLaren Fernando Alonso was satisfied with eighth place on the Grand Prix of Brazil.
For the most part of the race, he put pressure on Felipe Massa, but the power of the motor the Honda did not enough to conduct decisive overtaking.
Recall that in 2018, McLaren will switch to Renault engines, and Honda will supply its power plant of Toro Rosso.
“Throughout the weekend at our disposal was a fantastic car, but we couldn’t get ahead of the competition, – said Alonso’s comments to Sky Sports. – The lack of power is striking! He was the same as in Mexico.
Several times at the exit of the last turn as I approached Felipe and thought, “Now I’ll overtake him.” But even though I had the help of the DRS, he was coming off. In place of the Toro Rosso I would be worried about a power shortage next year.
For us, the weekend turned out great. We started from sixth place and into the first corner and were not the fifth, and then finished with glasses”.
When Fernando asked about whether Renault can improve performance and reliability in 2018, the Spaniard said: “Renault is the best engine manufacturer for the past 15-20 years, so we have nothing to worry about”.
