Head of Renault Sport’s Cyril Abitbul believes that the new plan FIA regulations for engines will lead to increased costs in the form of an arms race, and weaken the competitive environment in F1.
The FIA presented the characteristics of the engine 2021
“That would be in the FOM and the FIA may say, but they ask us to design a brand new engine,’ said Cyril in comments AUTOSPORT.com. – We know perfectly well what the consequences would be if the regulations will lead to the creation of an entirely new product.
This will restart the arms race, which has a negative impact on competition in the peloton”.
Head of Mercedes Motorsport Toto Wolff added: “This regulation involves the construction of a completely new engine with new systems of enrichment and impact energy.
We all agree that costs should be monitored, but we shouldn’t get too carried away with new creative concepts that may trigger an additional increase in the cost of developing the engine over the next three years.”
