The head of the Red Bull Racing Christian Horner told about the fact that Fernando Alonso could start the 2009 season in the Austrian team.
However, in 2009 the Spaniard took the decision to stay at Renault, and in 2010 was the pilot of the Ferrari.
“We were very close to signing Alonso, said Horner in an interview with MotorSport Magazine. – We with Helmut [Marko] has met with its management in late 2008, offering a two-year contract for 2009 and 2010.
He was willing to sign only a one-year deal, but we stood firm: either two years or nothing. He did not agree to such terms.
In 2011 or in 2012 at the airport Spa we have held one conversation, but… the most serious was precisely the first negotiations, after which the time was missed.”
