Former technical Director Williams Pat Symonds shared his expert opinion about problems with the engine in the Ferrari the last two stages, which took place in Malaysia and Japan.
“When in the qualification of Grand Prix of Malaysia on the car of Sebastian Vettel have problems with the intake manifold, the team had to test a second car. I may be wrong, but it seems they didn’t, and before the start of the race Kimi was faced with the same problem. If it was really so, then this is simply unacceptable – quoted Symonds F1Fanatic. – I admit that someone in the team said, “Yes, such can’t happen again, no need to panic”.
Although they should say, “who cares what the cause is. Let’s check and make sure with the second machine everything is fine.” But I don’t think Ferrari is to blame. Team wins and loses together.
Perhaps the role played by the fight for the title. We’ve seen this before on the example of Mercedes, which tried to speed up the switch gear and faced problems at crossings.
It is likely that the same thing happened at Ferrari with the intake manifold and the spark plug. A small increase in pressure in the cylinders or working at higher revs longer than usual can lead to lower reliability”.
