World champion Formula 1 2009, Jenson button explained what the series considers to continue racing career.
The Briton ended his career in the Royal races last year, although still a reserve pilot of McLaren in Monaco this season, even replaced Fernando Alonso. However, to return to the championship for a full schedule, he is not going and is considering alternatives for 2018.
“I’m not interested in IndyCar. Yes, there are great racers, but I am afraid of this series. There are chasing very brave guys. I would never do such a thing. I don’t think I even need it at this stage of career, – quotes the Button ESPN F1. Formula E certainly found its niche and will continue to evolve. But then again, this category does not cause me delight. I want to race, enjoy the struggle, hear the roar of the engine producing more than 600 HP Formula E is a different kind of racing, having the right to exist. I understand why this series has attracted many pilots. There can be good money, and this is an important factor.
I want one to act in “Le Mans”. But I don’t think I want to pilot the car of the GT category. I just can’t accept a pass on the lap car of a faster category. Again, LMP2 is a great class with good drivers and the teams, but there is LMP1. Don’t know if I’d go to start, knowing that I was going to go 20 seconds slower someone.”
