Head Sauber Frederick Wasser has made it clear that Pascal Wehrlein to continue his career in the Swiss team in the season of 2018.
It is expected that in light of the arrival of at least one Ferrari protégé – Charles LeClair or Antonio Giovinazzi – German no place in the team of Hinwil.
“In the coming days we will discuss this issue with Ferrari – said Vasser in an interview with Auto Motor und Sport. – It was important as soon as possible to decide on an engine supplier for next season, and we didn’t want to mix this solution with a choice of pilots, as only would have lost a lot of time. Now you can sit down and talk.
Pascal knows how is the situation in the team, and I know his ability, as he worked with him in the DTM.
In order to rebuild the team, riders need not only speed, but also the willingness to work with the stable to help her to move forward.”
It is believed that Marcus Ericsson guaranteed a place at Sauber for next season, as his sponsors are closely associated with investors team, but Vasser didn’t think so.
“It would be a mistake to build the team around rider just because he has connections with the owners – continued the Frenchman. Usually the riders want to see results in the next race but Sauber restructuring will require patience. So if Marcus wants to fight for podiums in the season of 2018, then it is better to leave. We’ll talk with the owners and discuss a scenario that will benefit both to Eriksson and the team.”
