Head of Mercedes Motorsport Toto Wolff was left impressed by Paul di Resta in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Backed racer Williams had replaced the unwell Felipe Massa, and despite the lack of experience of piloting the car of 2017, showed 19-th time, ahead of the pilot of the Sauber of Marcus Ericsson.
“I must admit, this is an incredible work, – quotes the AUTOSPORT wolf. – In the qualification he first sat behind the wheel of this car, and in recent years drove only a few laps on the car three years ago and stands in touring car racing.
Floor behind teammate just 0.7 seconds is a significant achievement, and there is nothing funny.
I’m very happy for him because he did it in spite of all the difficulties.”
On the question of whether Mercedes recourse to di Resta in the case of such problems, as at Williams, Wolff said: “Good question. Perhaps after what we saw on Saturday, it really will be the Floor.”
