Sauber racer Pascal Wehrlein is confident that the Grand Prix of Spain did the right thing by violating the rule of entry to the pit lane and not becoming to wait another round to pick up new tires.
German in contrast to most other pilots had the distance with one pit stop. The first and only time he stopped in the pits at the 33rd round, when was enabled, a virtual machine security. While Wehrlein swerved to the pit lane rather late, missing the pointer, for which he received a five second penalty, threw him on the finish from the seventh to the eighth place.
“I was called in for a pit stop when I passed the last turn – quoted Wehrlein GPUpdate.net. – I knew that it was important to get back to the pits, because if I hadn’t stopped, in the future, I would have missed all. So it was the only chance to earn some points.
I knew that would probably get a ticket, hoping for a penalty in the next race, a penalty for the team or something like that. But I am glad and a five-second penalty, it’s better than the fare on the pit lane.
In the last laps Carlos Sainz has made me a lot of pressure, many times tried to come forward. It was important to keep him and break away from those who were behind him. Every lap I drove in the qualifying mode, while in the first half of the race was important to monitor the condition of the tires and at the same time to maintain a high pace.
Overall it was a great race, the team worked perfectly. I am very happy.”
Head Sauber Moniz, Kaltenborn commented on the success of his ward.
“A great result for our team, made possible also thanks to good tactics, said Moniz. Pascal had a great race and Marcus Ericsson, who also got the maximum from the car.
This result suggests that we are moving in the right direction and our car definitely has potential. We look forward to the Monaco Grand Prix, where he will present the updates of aerodynamics”.
