Head of Mercedes Motorsport Toto Wolff admitted that the team needs to forget a bad race in Bahrain, where Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas gave the Ferrari pilot Sebastian Vettel, and focus on eliminating the existing shortcomings.
“We should be able to draw a line under a difficult Grand Prix. Very disappointing to lose in Bahrain, where we are faced with lots of problems, which cost us the victory. But it is important to fix them – Wolff quotes the press service of Mercedes. – Be careful not to pay too much attention to thoughts about these failures and to seek solutions for the future.
We know what shortcomings should be addressed, and what must be added in the upcoming races. You need to analyze each problem and develop a plan to avoid similar mistakes in the future. In the last few years we’ve done this quite often.”
While wolf acknowledges that the battle of Mercedes and Ferrari is good for Formula 1.
“It’s nice that everyone is talking about F1 in a positive way, – continued the Austrian. – It’s clear that fans like a tight battle between Mercedes and Ferrari. Us too. That is why we are in a race, we are riders and want to fight.”
For the first three Grands Prix of the Mercedes was 100% leading. However, Wolff admits that it doesn’t guarantee anything.
“The track in Sochi is different from every other, and this year in connection with the new rules you can’t take anything for granted, said Toto. – Success in previous years do not guarantee that we will win at the Grand Prix of Russia. In the face of Ferrari we have a very strong opponent. We will act gradually, try to have a good weekend and get a good result on Sunday”.
