New F1 Chairman chase Carey met with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip erdoğan during which they discussed the possibility of the return of the Turkish Grand Prix to the F1 calendar.
Also the meeting was attended by the President of the automobile club TOSFED Turkey Serkan Yazici, head track Istanbul Park Vural Cagatay Akif kılıç, Minister of sports of the party of Erdogan.
The Grand Prix of Turkey was held from 2005 to 2011, but in recent years its presence in the calendar, attendance plummeted.
Mercedes racer Lewis Hamilton believes that the new owners of the commercial rights of F1 Corporation Liberty Media need to put priority only courses with high attendance. Istanbul Park, according to Hamilton, is the reverse example.
“When we were in Turkey, there were 4,000 people, said Lewis. I don’t know what the cause: dislike of sports or the expensive tickets, but we need to compete only where there is real fans”.
After the coup attempt currently, Turkey is in a state of emergency, and Istanbul Park is included in the list of 15 tracks that could technically make the stages F1, but the Grand Prix there are.
