After the first pre-season tests in Barcelona, Valtteri Bottas admitted in an interview with AUTOSPORT.com that the transition from Williams in the Mercedes passed him some harder than he expected.
After the unexpected decision of Nico Rosberg to finish his career, Mercedes has decided to sign in the place of the German Bottas, just a half months before the first tests.
“Every day I’m getting more used to the team and feel more comfortable – said Valtteri. – I already feel quite easy, for example, today morning walk and Breakfast went well. Of course, still a lot of work. I thought to change team will be a little easier, but it is unlikely that this process can be called a challenge.
Since the signing of the agreement, I incessantly worked to get used to everything. It came to fruition. I am sure that next week the progress will go on, and Melbourne before I have time to return to base to review and discuss with the engineers. I have no doubt that fully delve into the work of the team before the first Grand Prix”.
To the question about what he had to get used to Mercedes, Valtteri said, “back at the base I realized how different this team organizes many aspects, be it engineering meeting, meeting or checklist for setting up a car.
Also the process of interaction with the team on the road – it’s not too fast. But still have to remember all the names in Brackley minimum of 800 employees!”
Bottas admitted that he was lucky that he switched to Mercedes before this season, “Lewis [Hamilton] has long supported this team and knows all about her. After the first test of the car, he admitted that he reminds him of the previous one, only with more grip and wider. Well, I now switched to this team, and not, say, a year ago.”
Valtteri added that he is going to adopt the experience of his partner: “the new team-mate, always something to learn. Of course, I will closely follow Lewis. It would be foolish to ignore it.
However, a lot of the smartest people that I also intend to learn important knowledge.”
