The head of the team Mercedes Toto Wolff was pleased with the result of the first qualifying of the season 2017. Ward of the German team, Lewis Hamilton managed to win the pole position, and his newfound partner, Valtteri Bottas was third.
“The first and third position in qualifying – a great way to start the season – said the wolf. – New regulations didn’t give us any guarantees, but on the tests we knew that the Ferrari is very strong.
The fight for pole position turned out spectacular, and now it is clear that we have a serious fight with Ferrari.
This whole weekend, Lewis shows great speed, and I’m glad to see it on the pole. As for Valtteri, he’s a little disappointed that he lacked only a few hundredths of a second up to second position, but in the first weekend can’t always have it perfect.
With each trip to the track he progresses, so he will step it up further. Now the important thing is to act according to plan, and tomorrow already will show. Whatever happens, we don’t get a complete answer to the question about the starting order.
I hope that the new era will present to fans a lot of interesting struggle.”
In the past technical Director of Ferrari, now occupying the same position in Mercedes, James Ellison, too, noted that the team is waiting for a tough season in an increasingly competitive environment: “I want to pay tribute to all members of the team that created after the success of 2016, the car is able to win the pole position.
The team has made tremendous efforts, but one thing is clear – we are expecting a tight battle, and probably a memorable season. We need to always stay ahead in the “arms race”. I’m honored to be part of such a strong team.”
